March 2013- Pingry Lacrosse
This month’s featured team is actually two–the Men’s and Women’s lacrosse teams at the Pingry School from Basking Ridge, NJ. The teams have formed the LtN Club, doing both LtN related fundraisers and other service projects. Since the Fall of 2012, members of the LtN Club have built a strong relationship with the Elizabethport Center in Elizabeth, NJ. On Columbus Day, they held a clinic for 30 kids from the Center. Later that month, the Club returned to the Elizabethport Center as part of Pingry’s annual day of service. Club member Meg Vreeland writes:
“This year, for Pingry School’s annual community service day, the LtN Club dedicated our time to help the Elizabethport Community Center sort books, build shelves, and assemble furniture for their first children’s library. We had a great time while creating a place for the children to learn, read and spend their free time in a safe environment.
In early December, the LtN Club held a bake sale at Pingry to raise money to donate to LtN and fund our October clinic for the children of Elizabethport. We are excited to donate $135 to LtN.”
Tentative plans for the 2013 season include:
- Custom Pingry Lacrosse t-shirts for Men’s and Women’s Teams
- Women’s Scoop for Loot game
- Merchandise sales at a home game
- Inviting the Elizabethport kids watch a game and provide an hour long clinic afterwards
We hope to have Pingry LtN Club members on a trip to Nicaragua in Summer, 2013! Thank you Pingry!!!
