There are currently over 285 students enrolled in the SoH, and lacrosse is offered as a PE class each week for the over 100 students in the afternoon secondary classes.
During class, the coaches use our Life Skills Curriculum to teach valuable skills such as basic health and nutrition, teamwork, and self-respect through the game of lacrosse. The goal for this curriculum is to help translate the skills learned on the field to areas off the field, such as the classroom, home, and peer relationships.
We offer monthly field trips for the lacrosse classes to Halle’s Field, a sports complex outside of La Chureca. These trips provide incentive for the classes to work hard and behave well in order to earn the opportunity to go each month. For many of these students, this is the first time they have been able to go on a field trip.
Lacrosse the Nations provides all necessary lacrosse equipment, regular field upkeep and maintenance, and nutritional supplements for all of the players. Coaches submit monthly evaluations and reflections to provide valuable and accurate metrics of the growth and success of our program, which allows us to further develop and improve our program. This pilot program is being implemented first at the SoH and will be scaleable and replicable when we establish new program sites.
