Paul Scheufele and Weston Youth Lacrosse to host LtN event

Lacrosse the Nations would like to thank Paul Scheufele, one of the founding members of our Advisory Board, for hosting this event in his hometown of Weston, CT to benefit Lacrosse the Nations. Below is the article that appeared in The Weston Forum.com publicizing the event. You can also view the article online here.

“Lacrosse the Nations and its co-founder, Brad Corrigan, will appear at Weston High School on Thursday, April 15, from 6:45 to 8 p.m. to show its award-winning documentary, sing and talk about the positive impact sports can have on educating children in impoverished communities worldwide. The event is sponsored by the Weston Lacrosse Club.
Corrigan is a musician with the internationally known band, Dispatch. Dispatch sold out three straight nights at Madison Square Garden, played at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and drew 110,000 fans to a concert on the Esplanade in Boston.
All Weston adults and children are welcome to attend. Children enter free and the recommended donation for adults is $10 at the door.
Lacrosse the Nations, an international humanitarian 501c(3) organization that supports education in impoverished communities throughout the world, has formed a partnership with the Weston Lacrosse Club. Lacrosse the Nations was founded under the principle that education is the best pathway out of poverty and toward a better life. By partnering with lacrosse programs in the U.S. and with schools in impoverished communities around the globe, Lacrosse the Nations establishes lacrosse to help improve educational enrollment, attendance and graduation rates while encouraging health, safety, respect and fun.
In its first year of operation, Lacrosse the Nations has partnered with the school located in the city dump community in Managua, Nicaragua. The dump community, known as La Chureca, is home to 1,000 people, half of them children, who endure extreme poverty living in and subsisting off other people’s garbage. Nearly 350 students in kindergarten through sixth grade attend the school.
The co-founders of Lacrosse the Nations have worked as humanitarians in the dump community for five years and are trusted advocates there. Weston Lacrosse Club’s founder, Paul Scheufele, visited La Chureca with captains from the 2007 Weston High boys and girls lacrosse teams to observe first-hand the impact Lacrosse the Nations is having on children there.
