Pam Quinn: Treasures in the Trash

Lacrosse the Nations would like to thank Pam Quinn for sharing her beautiful photos of La Chureca with her community in Middlebury, Vermont. She has been a tremendous support and friend to us, and we are so grateful to have her, her family and her community as a part of this LtN team.
Below are her reflections on her first photo exhibit and a few of her favorite photos...
"Amidst the hubbub of holiday preparations, people in Middlebury, Vermont took time out for an unusual type of holiday story...the story of children who live in a garbage dump in Managua, Nicaragua.
On December 11th, over 150 people gathered at “51 Main” to see my exhibit “Treasures in the Trash: photographs of the children of La Chureca”. The story was told of their existence in the dump, and of two foundations helping them out: “Love, Light & Melody”, and “Lacrosse the Nations”.
I loved seeing and hearing people’s reactions to various photos. I can never predict which photo will capture someone’s heart. One woman’s son had done work in Central America. Another woman had nephews adopted from Central America. Many had personal stories to share after seeing the photos. It was the first time my photos had been displayed, and the reaction was overwhelming! I am hoping that seeing the children will inspire people to support Lacrosse the Nations through a donation or by joining in on a trip!
Brad Corrigan and Dave Campbell, both driving forces behind Lacrosse the Nations, will be holding a panel discussion and a screening of the Lacrosse the Nations documentary on January 20th at “51 Main” in Middlebury at 7pm. Come and join us if you are in the area! The documentary is a phenomenal and touching look at the first venture of the Lacrosse the Nations team into La Chureca."
